Dublin-born, London-based songwriter and producer Kynsy, aka Ciara Lindsey, is back with ‘eleanor’, a jagged, atmospheric indie-rock track that offers the first glimpse of what’s to come following her 2024 EP Utopia.

Built around fractured textures and a brooding production, ‘eleanor’ balances its darker edge with an immediate pop sensibility. The result is a restless, guitar-driven track that explores the uneasy territory between romantic obsession and knowing that someone is likely to hurt you.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Kynsy describes it as being about “being enthralled by someone from afar, knowing they’ll only hurt you”. She adds that it is a dark, poetic take on teenage infatuation and unrequited love, wrapped in what she calls a romantic, reckless, early-2000s Skins atmosphere.

The track also marks an important step in Kynsy’s development as a producer. She co-produced ‘eleanor’ with two members of her live band, drummer Rory Gilmore, also known as producer and DJ Body Clinic, and guitarist Tyler Darrington, who works under the name T. Evann.

Sonically, Kynsy cites Sorry’s debut album as an influence, particularly its restless energy and fractured approach. She has long wanted to push further into glitchy, left-field production, with the combination of electronic and rock elements remaining central to her sound.

The decision to produce the new material with her band came after frustrations trying to find and fund an external producer for the next collection of songs. Rather than wait for the right opportunity, Kynsy took matters into her own hands, with ‘eleanor’ offering an early indication of what that creative freedom can deliver.

With three EPs behind her and previous support from NME, DIY, Dork, BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6  Music, Kynsy is now beginning the next chapter of her musical journey.

‘eleanor’ is out now.
